On Thursday evening, I had the pleasure of dining at The Kingsdon Inn, a charming family-run thatched pub located in the quaint village of Kingsdon, just a short drive from Somerton.
One of the standout aspects of The Kingsdon Inn is the personal touch. The chef himself served our meals. It’s a great way to connect with the people behind the delicious dishes and really emphasizes the family-run nature of the pub. The service was quick and friendly throughout the evening, making the whole experience smooth and enjoyable.
The Experience
For my main course, I chose the roast chump of locally reared lamb. It came with potato dauphinoise, minted peas, Wye Valley asparagus, and a rich jus.
The lamb was tender and full of flavour, perfectly complemented by the rosemary-salted, hand-cut chips on the side, which I ordered separately. Each component was well-prepared and showcased the quality of the local ingredients.
For dessert, I couldn’t resist Katrina’s special sticky toffee pudding with candied ginger ice cream and salted butterscotch sauce. I tried to capture the beauty of the dessert, but the chef decided to make a surprise appearance just as I was taking the photo – resulting in a picture that’s more abstract art than actual dessert! Nonetheless, the pudding was a delightful end to the meal – sweet and satisfying.
While dining at The Kingsdon Inn may require a slightly higher spend, the outstanding quality of the dishes and the welcoming, family-run vibe make it a worthwhile choice. If you’re after a cosy eatery with delicious food near Somerton, The Kingsdon Inn is certainly worth checking out.
