As we stepped into The Sheep & Penguin, we were greeted by a bustling ambiance brimming with the conviviality of a classic English pub. The cozy atmosphere immediately set the stage for what turned out to be a delightful evening of dining.

The menu, a testament to the pub’s commitment to seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, presented a tantalising array of dishes influenced by flavours from around the globe. It was evident that every dish was crafted with care and creativity, promising a feast for both the palate and the soul.

The Experience

Marmalade and brown sugar glazed ham, hens’ eggs, triple cooked chips, piccalilli

I opted for the marmalade and brown sugar glazed ham, accompanied by hens’ eggs, and served with triple-cooked chips and piccalilli.

8oz beef burger, smoked bacon, Monterey Jack, mustard mayo, relish, fries

Meanwhile, my brother indulged in the 8oz beef burger, adorned with smoked bacon, Monterey Jack cheese, mustard mayo, and relish, accompanied by a generous serving of fries. The burger boasted juicy, succulent beef complemented perfectly by the smoky bacon.

Apple and berry crumble, vanilla ice cream

As we moved on to desserts, we found ourselves torn between the array of delectable options. Eventually, I settled on the apple and berry crumble, served with a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream. The warmth of the crumble juxtaposed beautifully with the cool creaminess of the ice cream, leaving me utterly satisfied.

This is easily one of the best crumbles I’ve had in a very long time.

Triple chocolate brownie, honeycomb ice cream, chocolate sauce

With its warm ambiance, attentive service, and inspired menu, The Sheep & Penguin is not to be missed for anyone seeking a long lazy lunch or an indulgent dinner in Wells.
