On Saturday, I had lunch at The Cross Keys Inn, just outside Bath. A proper country pub with a relaxed, welcoming feel. We sat out in the garden, which had plenty of shaded spots, making it a perfect spot to escape the heat.
I went for a classic pub burger, and it turned out to be one of the best I’ve had in a while. Served in a soft brioche bun that actually held together – a rarity, frankly. It was clear the kitchen had taken real care with the details. No sliding contents, no disintegrating bread, just a solid, satisfying burger that tasted as good as it looked.
Extra credit to the team for serving the food as quickly as they did under the high temperatures. And it’s worth mentioning that The Cross Keys offers a 10% discount off the whole bill for NHS workers, which is a thoughtful touch. If you’re after honest pub food in a chilled setting, this is a strong shout. I need to try their Sunday lunch roast next!
Note: There is a discretionary 10% service charge added to the final bill.
Is The Cross Keys Inn for families? Absolutely! The menu contains lots of options suitable for young guests.
Where should I park? I recommend parking on Southstoke Road, which is next to the pub.
