Da Costa in Bruton: My Review

On Thursday, I booked a table at Da Costa in Bruton, billed as “An Italian in Somerset”, located on Durslade Farm, the home of Hauser & Wirth Somerset. As I approached the entrance, one of the waiters greeted me outside, asked, “Is your name Adam?” and guided me through to the restaurant. It is a small gesture, but it immediately made me feel like a valued guest before I had even stepped inside.

Throughout the meal, the service was flawless. A few different waiters served me, each full of enthusiasm for the food they were bringing out. Their energy really added to the experience. The kitchen is fully visible from the dining area, giving the space a lively feel without it ever seeming chaotic.

To begin, I chose a dish from the antipasti section: beetroot and apple with oat crème fraîche and caramelised walnuts, beautifully presented and full of fresh, clean flavours.

Next, I picked another dish from the antipasti section: Durslade Farm beef carpaccio, which the waiter noted as an excellent choice. This was a little outside my comfort zone, as I had never tried carpaccio before, but it was a memorable choice. If carpaccio is not for you, there are plenty of other inspired dishes on the Italian menu.

To finish, I had the pear strudel for dessert. The pastry was crisp and light, and the fruit filling was rich with flavour. A brilliant way to round off the afternoon.

I’d also recommend strolling around the Hauser & Wirth garden after your meal.

Entry to the garden and gallery at Hauser & Wirth is always free.

There is always ample parking at Hauser & Wirth, and it’s free.

Driving through Bruton made me realise I should stop by more often. Subscribers always rave about must-try restaurants here, and I’m definitely planning to check them out. Thank you for sending me your recommendations.
