Queen of Cups in Glastonbury: My Review

In my opinion, the most important aspect of any restaurant is the environment you sit in, not what’s on the plate.

As Marco Pierre White once said, “If you don’t feel comfortable in the environment you’re sat in, you’ll never enjoy what’s on the plate”.

Queen of Cups in Glastonbury offers a warm, friendly environment with a focused menu and masterfully presented dishes. This review is a good one…

This 17th-century coaching inn, transformed into a modern Middle Eastern haven, promises an unforgettable dining experience.

Queen of Cups boasts a meticulously crafted menu, each dish a testament to the culinary artistry of Executive Chef and co-founder Ayesha Kalaji. Her unique vision has garnered recognition, including a Michelin Bib Gourmand and a ‘Best Newcomer’ nomination at the Estrella Damm Top 100 Gastropubs 2023. Ayesha herself was awarded Middle Eastern Food of the Year at the BIH Spotlight Awards 2022, solidifying her place as a culinary force.

My exploration began with the laverbread falafel, a delightful interplay of textures and flavours. Sumac, lime fennel, and tahini danced on the palate, offering a vibrant introduction to the meal.

The main course, crispy hogget, presented a symphony of tastes. The succulent meat paired perfectly with the kamouneh-spiced heart skewer, each bite infused with depth and complexity. Celeriac puree, green shatta, and bitter leaves provided a refreshing counterpoint, completing the culinary masterpiece.

The restaurant’s name, inspired by Tarot card reading, reflects the mystical history of Glastonbury and embodies the spirit of the dining experience. The attentive and knowledgeable staff further elevated the atmosphere, ensuring each guest felt welcome. You can view the full menu on their website.

Queen of Cups is a must-visit destination for those seeking a unique and flavourful journey. With its focused menu, passionate team, and enchanting ambiance, this modern Middle Eastern gem is an essential restaurant for discerning palates in Somerset and beyond.

I would recommend parking in St Dunstan’s Car Park in Glastonbury, which is just a two-minute walk from Queen of Cups.
